Bachendri Pal (born May 24, 1954) is an Indian mountaineer, who in 1984 became the first Indian woman to reach the summit of <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Mount%20Everest">Mount Everest</a>. She is a recipient of the third highest civilian award Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2019.
Early Life and Education: Born in Nakuri village, in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India, Pal came from a humble background. She completed her B.Ed. from D.A.V. Post Graduate College, Dehradun.
Mountaineering Career: Her passion for mountaineering began early. She joined the National Adventure Foundation (NAF), where she received training. In 1984, she was selected as one of the members of India's first mixed-gender team to climb <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Mount%20Everest">Mount Everest</a>. After facing setbacks and challenges, she successfully summited the peak on May 23, 1984.
Post-Everest Achievements: Following her achievement on Everest, Pal continued to be involved in mountaineering and adventure activities. She led several expeditions, including an all-women team to cross the Himalayas from east to west in 1997.
Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF): Bachendri Pal has been associated with Tata Steel Adventure Foundation since 1983. Currently she is working as an advisor in TSAF, where she trains young men and women in adventure sports.
Awards and Recognition: She has received numerous awards and accolades for her achievements, including the Padma Shri (1984), the Arjuna Award (1986), and the Padma Bhushan (2019). She is considered a role model and an inspiration to women in India and around the world.
